Hybrid Event- Choose your participation at registration
Minnesota recently passed the
"Driver’s License for All" law, which allows individuals regardless of legal
immigration status to obtain a MN driver’s license or Identification card. The
law became effective on Oct. 1, 2023. In this CLE, we will discuss the history
and development of this new law. We will explore how this new legislation will
benefit everyone living in the great state of MN. We will also address privacy
protections that were put in place to encourage immigrants from a wide variety
of countries, educational backgrounds, and socio-economic classes to actually
take advantage of this new law. While some have expressed concerns that a newly
enacted automatic voter registration law will register noncitizens to vote, we
will address protections put in place both to protect the vote and to protect
immigrants from inadvertent registration. We will address how this legislation
is intended to create a more inclusive environment for all residents of MN.
