Court
Judges: Judge Shawn M. Bartsh, Judge John H. Guthmann, and Judge Elena
L. Ostby. This intimate event offers the opportunity to hear candid
conversations and personal anecdotes, as our esteemed panel delves into the intricacies of
judicial decision-making, the evolution of legal principles, and the challenges and
triumphs they've encountered throughout their careers. Participants will have the
chance to pose questions, engage in lively discussions, and
gain invaluable wisdom
from these
seasoned legal luminaries. Stay afterwards for a social with complimentary food and beverages at Larson

Featured Panelists:
Hon.
Shawn M. Bartsh | Ramsey County District Court. Judge Bartsh earned a
J.D from William Mitchell College of Law and a B.A. from Luther College. She was
appoined as a District Court Judge by Governor Mark Dayton in 2013. After law
school, Judge Bartsh worked in private practice, as an arbitrator for the
American Arbitration Assocaition, and as a conciliation court referee at the
Ramsey County District Court. Judge Bartsh was a former President of the Ramsey
County Bar Association. Judge Bartsh also served as former President at the
Highland Business Association and Highland District Council, as well as a member of the
Ford Site Palnning Task Force.
Hon.
John H. Guthmann | Ramsey County District Court. Judge Guthmann earned a
J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law and a B.A. from Cornell College.
Appointed as a District Court Judge, Second Judicial District, by then Governor
Pawlenty in 2010. Since law school, Judge Guthmann has worked as a judicial law
clerk in Hennepin County, as a judicial law clerk for Minnesota Supreme Court
Chief Justice Robert Sheran, and was a Managing Partner at Hansen, Dordell,
Bradt, Odlaug & Bradt. Judge Guthmann was a former President of the Ramsey
County Bar Association from 2004-2005 and served as both the Chief Judge and Assistant Chief Judge of
the 2nd Judicial District.
Hon.
Elena L. Ostby | Ramsey County District Court. Retiring on
September 20, 2024. Judge Ostby earned a J.D. from University of
Minnesota Law School and B.A. from University of Minnesota College of Liberal
Arts. Appointed as District Court Judge, Second Judicial District, by the
Governor in 2004. Since law school, Judge Ostby has worked in Ramsey County in
legal services, private practice (including as a successful small business owner
and partner Briggs and Morgan) and as a trial court judge. Judge Ostby has
served on various boards including the Board of Directors and Ethics Committee
for the Ramsey County Bar Association and as a member of the Minnesota Minority
Lawyers Association and Minnesota Hispanic Bar Associations amongst many others.
