Back to School Week | Billing and Trust Accounting 101

Event Description

Back to School Week: Equipping Your Law Practice for Future Success

Billing and trust accounting are two of the most critical aspects of running a law office, but these topics weren’t covered in law school. Attorneys never really had the chance to learn about managing a firm, and this has worked a disservice for many of them.

Billing and managing your trust account should no longer be the laborious tasks that they were in the past. Technology now exists to make life easier, with more of an eye on compliance with your state bar. You can absolutely minimize your risk of nonpayment and reduce administrative stress by automating your billing and properly managing your trust accounts. From basic strategies to utilizing billing automation with the aid of technology, this CLE is meant to take your practice to the next level.

Join attorney Jordan Turk as she takes you through her most effective billing strategies, including tips on what to do when you have way too much aged receivables on your books. All hope is not lost on getting paid from these clients!

In this CLE webinar, you’ll learn:

   • How to automate your billing processes to make your billing run like clockwork
   • The most common ethical issues with billing practices, and how to avoid them
   • Proper trust account management and reporting, specifically addressing three-way trust account reconciliation
   • Strategies for obtaining payment from nonpaying clients, including templates to help you along the way

Presenter:

Jordan Turk, Attorney & Legal Technology Advisor at Smokeball
Jordan is a practicing attorney in Texas, and the Legal Technology Advisor at Smokeball. Her family law expertise includes complex property division and contentious custody cases, as well as appeals and prenuptial agreements. In addition to her family law practice, she’s passionate about legal technology and how it can revolutionize law firms.

Jordan graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Classics, History, and Religious Studies and then went on to attend the University of Arkansas School of Law to earn her J.D. After almost four years of practice with a high-asset family law firm in Houston (and after being frustrated at the lack of automation in her firm), she discovered the world of legal technology which ultimately brought her to Smokeball.

In Hacking Law Firm Success with Jordan Turk, she interviews law firm founders about how they grew and scaled their practices, as well as their ethos behind managing a firm.
