2011-12

Section Membership
As of June 30, 2012, the Public Utilities Section has 129 members.  The Section had a 5% decrease in membership during the 2011-12 fiscal year.

Financial Status
The Public Utilities Section had an account balance of $15,908.88 as of May 31, 2012.

Legislation and Amicus Briefs
The Public Utilities Section did not submit any legislative proposals or amicus briefs in 2011-12.

Annual Meeting and Election Results
The Section’s annual meeting and elections were held on May 9, 2012, at the Landmark Center in St. Paul.  The meeting was held in conjunction with lunch and a CLE program. 

The following individuals were elected to serve as Section Officers in 2012-13:

Chair:  Dan Lipshultz
Vice Chair:  Ingrid Bjorklund       
Secretary/Treasurer: Kari Valley

The following individuals were elected to serve on the Public Utilities Section Council for a two year term from July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2014:

Ingrid Bjorklund (re-elected)
Lisa Crum (re-elected)
Bruce Gerhardson (re-elected)
Aakash Chandarana (newly elected)
Kodi Church (newly elected)

In addition to officers Dan Lipschultz and Kari Valley, the following individuals will remain on the Council for a term ending June 30, 2013:

Greg Merz
Eric Swanson
Jim Johnson (serving one year immediate past Chair term)

The Section expresses its appreciation to Linda Jensen and Joan Peterson Lussenhop for their years of service on the section Council.  Linda and Joan chose not to run for re-election.  We welcome Aakash and Kodi to the Council.

The following individuals will serve as the Section’s MSBA Assembly representative and alternate in 2012-13:

Alternate:  Ingrid Bjorklund, Vice Chair

Other Section Accomplishments

The Section hosted its first ever Holiday reception in December 2011 with members of the Communications Law Section.

The Section adopted revised and updated section Bylaws at the annual meeting on May 9, 2012.  The amended bylaws allow non-attorney members of the Section.

The Section contributed $1000 to support the Volunteer Lawyers Network “Beck Scholars” program, which helps fund a VISTA attorney at VLN.   The Administrative Law Section and Public Law Section also supported the Beck Scholars program.
