Committee Mission:

The MSBA Civic Education Committee leverages the unique knowledge, skills, and resources of the Bar to educate youth about the rule of law and civic rights and responsibilities. We accomplish these goals by developing programs, building partnerships, and influencing public policy.

Our History:

The Committee’s work relies on the recommendations contained in the ABA Civic Education and Separation of Powers report (www.abanet.org) and the CIRCLE Civic Mission of Schools report (www.civicmissionofschools.org). You can find the 2006 Nation's Civics Report Card here.

The Committee initiated its work based on the ABA survey report regarding the importance of civic education and having an independent judiciary, which, like many national surveys, highlighted a decreasing academic attention to civics and reduced community connections outside the classroom. The Committee is focused on addressing these concerns.
